Basics of figure drawing: Shadows

Objective:
The attendants will learn how to see the shadows in the human figure, to simplify and to use them to improve proportions and anatomy in drawing.
Materials:
- sketchbook or drawing pad
- charcoal stick, charcoal pencils
- soft graphite pencils 2B or 4B
- an eraser
(if you don’t have charcoal, we will bring some along just in case)
Instructor's bio:
Miguel Reyes is a Mexican artist based in Brooklyn, earned his Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts at Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas in Mexico City. He learned drawing for animation at the School of Visual Arts and academic drawing at the Art Student Leage both in New York City. Most of his work is on drawing and painting. Nowadays his work is focused on color in drawing, using color pencils and oil painting as main mediums. Reyes' work has been featured in a range of exhibitions around the world, including La Bodega Gallery and the Art Gowanus Open Studios in Brooklyn, Espacio 120 in Barcelona, Galeria NM Contemporaneo in Morelos, Mexico and the Museum of Teotihuacan in Mexico State, among others. As part of his experience, he has worked as a freelance Storyboard artist in the US and as an instructor in figure drawing in Mexico City.
