An opening reception will be help on Friday, September 8th from 7-9pm.
and there was nowhere left to run is about the absurd, humorous, romantic, and considerably apocalyptic times we are currently experiencing. The exhibition and title pull inspiration from a quote found in author and poet John Elizabeth Stintzi’s novel My Volcano: “...they knew that everyone in the world was in danger, and there was nowhere left to run.”
The title of and work made for and there was nowhere left to run allude to our collective confrontation and reconciliation of the cultural zeitgeist. Using a visual language informed by cartoons and illustrative media, I have synthesized malleable, energetic, and often joyous environments that are – albeit steeped in the artifice of human intervention – optimistic yet catastrophic.
