Established Gallery is pleased to present GUIDING LIGHTS, a solo exhibition by Rick Secen. This exhibition features new paintings from Secen's new body of work, seventeen guiding lights for a relentlessly spinning world. GUIDING LIGHTS will be on display from January 14th - 30th. Due to the recent developments with the omicron variant this show will be appointment only, 1 hour booking which can be made at this link (groups of 4 or less)

In March 2020, a time when so much darkness began to shroud our lives, I sat down at my mother’s desk in Pittsburgh where I was sheltering in place, and I sketched out a number of small concept drawings themed on our profound connection with light. What began as personal therapy grew into a larger plan for a gallery show. Perhaps I could take what small amount of light I had and inject it back into the world through painting. Little did I know that by the time the exhibition would take place, eighteen months later, we would still be in the darkness of such trying times.

This show is about isolation and hope in light.

About the artist

Rick Secen is a Brooklyn-based artist who has been working primarily in oil painting since 2015.  After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, he moved to New York City to pursue sound editing for film.  His current work is informed by his love of storytelling.  In 2018, Rick held his first solo painting exhibition, titled "City Witness" which depicted life from New York's Lower East Side in character studies, riverscapes, and street scenes.

Rick's compositions and painting methods embrace his fascination in the dual nature of life, which seems to speak in chaos and rhythm simultaneously.  The large works are often saturated with a sense of light and atmosphere and a strong sense of story.
