Meet the Artists
Traci Johnson was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Johnson specializes in textile design, installation, and sculpture. Johnson has shown at numerous galleries including Art Port Kingston, Sweet Lorraine Gallery, Michael David & Co, Museum at FIT and F.I.T. Art & Design Gallery. Johnson is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology majoring in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History. Their concepts are driven by mental health, and art and fashion as therapy subcultures. Johnson strives to create a healing space for themselves and others within their work – essentially a safe space. They are deeply affected by traumas and how the human mind, soul, and body can be soothed by a moment. As they discover ways to comfort themself, their art emulates a calm, euphoric space.
Johnson uses bright and vibrant colors in their work, which bring a sense of euphoria and joy. They are also deeply inspired by the natural world and how it seizes on every opportunity to grow and branch out into beautiful tendrils. This is emulated in the organic, flowing forms in Johnson’s work. They feel grateful to be able to express themselves through this outlet and will continue to display their art for the world to see.
Rick Secen (b. 1982) lives in Brooklyn where he has been pursuing oil painting since 2015. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, he moved to New York City to pursue sound editing for film. Coming from a film-making background, his instinct in painting leans heavily on the art of storytelling.
There is no single all-encompassing theme for Secen’s large conceptual paintings. You will, however, find that light and atmosphere dominate the canvases. There is often a sense of isolation met with the radiance of light. Nature, for all of its chaos, rhymes itself and acknowledges our presence. Light is no incidental element, but is itself an active character in the narrative, moving, seeking, and reaching out.
Rick keeps his studio on Flatbush Avenue where visitors are welcome to browse the large gallery walls.
Tegan Brozyna Roberts is a mixed media artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from Brooklyn College where she was a Graduate Teaching Fellow as well as a recipient of the Cerf Award and the Dean's Award in Art. Solo exhibitions include those at Material Exhibitions in Chicago, GoggleWorks in Reading, PA and the Philadelphia International Airport. Brozyna Roberts has exhibited nationally and internationally including group shows at Heather Gaudio Fine Art in New Canaan, CT, Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY, Groundfloor Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, and Icelandic Textile Centre in Blönduós, Iceland. Art fairs include Affordable Art Fair New York, Art on Paper New York, Art Miami and Seattle Art Fair. In 2019, Brozyna Roberts participated in Meta Open Arts (formerly Facebook AIR), which culminated in a permanent installation at Facebook’s New York office.
Drawing from a background in landscape painting as well as an interest in textiles, Brozyna Roberts’ work focuses on a relationship to place and geography. Her practice is that of exploration and meditation. She creates new landscapes in the form of woven collages by using found source material from specific locations. Borrowing from the language of weaving, clusters of painted paper are layered and suspended in space by the tension of threads. These dimensional collages are modular with small forms gathering like stones accumulating into a mountain. She is particularly inspired by the generations of seamstresses in her family as well as the quilting tradition of reusing fabric remnants. By incorporating past drawings and paper fragments into each piece, she creates a record of a generative process.
